Timeline of the Project
Changing contracts is never easy, especially within a global corporation like The Coca-Cola Company. The journey of creating The Athletes Code began in 2022, with the idea approved and the first of many long calls and discussions with the company’s legal team. Throughout 2023, we worked closely with our sponsored athletes and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to draft the language of the Code.
During this time, we also began updating the sponsorship agreements of our current athletes and embedding The Athletes Code into new contracts, including those with college athletes. Only after every contract had been updated and signed was the initiative unveiled to the world, in 2024.
